Salvus Neurophysiology Centre

Salvus Neurophysiology Centre

Our Neurophysiology Centre offers advanced diagnostic testing to assess the function of the nervous system and muscles. Using state-of-the-art equipment and experienced technicians/physiologists, we provide accurate, timely results to help diagnose neuropathies, neuromuscular disorders, seizures, hearing and brainstem function issues, autonomic disorders, and more.

Core services (tests performed)

  • Nerve Conduction Studies (NCV/ NCS)
    • Measures speed and strength of electrical signals in peripheral nerves to diagnose neuropathy, entrapment (e.g., carpal tunnel), demyelination, axonal injury.
  • Electromyography (EMG)
    • Needle EMG evaluates electrical activity of muscles at rest and during contraction to detect myopathies, motor neuron disease, radiculopathy, and denervation/reinnervation.
  • Electroencephalography (EEG)
    • Scalp EEG records brain electrical activity to evaluate seizures, encephalopathy, sleep disorders, and altered mental status.
  • Video EEG (vEEG)
    • Continuous synchronized EEG with video monitoring for seizure characterization, differential diagnosis of spells, presurgical epilepsy evaluation, and treatment guidance.
  • Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry / BERA (ABR)
    • Objective test of auditory nerve and brainstem pathways for hearing evaluation, newborn screening follow-up, and assessing brainstem function.
  • Sympathetic Skin Response (SSR) / Autonomic Reflex Testing
    • Assesses small fiber and autonomic function by measuring sweat-related skin responses; useful for autonomic neuropathy and small-fiber disorders.
  • Other nerve and muscle tests
    • Repetitive Nerve Stimulation (RNS) for neuromuscular junction disorders (e.g., myasthenia gravis)
    • F-wave and H-reflex studies for proximal nerve and nerve-root assessment
    • Quantitative sensory testing (QST) as available
    • Specialized motor and sensory conduction protocols as required

Who we serve

  • Patients with numbness, tingling, weakness, muscle pain, twitching or cramping
  • Suspected peripheral neuropathy, radiculopathy, myopathy, motor neuron disease
  • Seizure assessment and epilepsy evaluation
  • Hearing pathway and newborn hearing follow-up
  • Autonomic dysfunction and small-fiber neuropathy

Preparation & what to expect

  • Bring referral, ID, medication list, prior relevant reports/imaging
  • Wear loose, short-sleeved clothing; avoid lotions/creams on day of test
  • Some tests may require temporary medication adjustments—follow clinician instructions
  • NCV/EMG: typically 30–90 minutes; EMG involves small needle insertions and transient discomfort
  • EEG/vEEG: EEG ~30–60 minutes; vEEG may require prolonged/overnight monitoring
  • BERA: noninvasive, quick; usually 20–45 minutes
  • SSR and autonomic tests: typically brief, sometimes part of a longer autonomic battery
  • Results: interpreted by a board-certified neurophysiologist/neurologist; report sent to referring clinician—discuss results with your provider for treatment planning

Safety & comfort

  • All procedures are non-surgical and generally safe; risks and sensations (temporary discomfort, minor bruising with EMG) will be explained
  • Trained staff ensure patient comfort and privacy throughout testing
